What is a Service Category?

Back to Articles

Service Categories: A Service Category is a predetermined grouping of Services with a cost recovery/subsidy level identified for each Service offered by the organization.

As your are entering your organizations data into PASS(TM) Lite, you can assign a Service Category to each service.  This linking will then assign a predetermined cost recovery goal to the service with the result showing a fee for the service at the desired cost recovery goal.

NOTE: the Service Category Cost Recovery Goals are pre-set.  However, you may increase or decrease (using the slider) the cost recovery goal when working in the Service Detail screen.

This will ONLY impact the specific program you are working on at the moment.  For example, you may have Aquatics and Sports programming (both Service Areas) that have “beginning” type classes.  You can “categorize” these “like” services into a Service Category of say, ‘Skill-Based Beginner” so that each of these programs will receive the same cost recovery goal.  In short, the purpose of the Service Category is to be able to assign similar cost recovery goals to services across ALL Service Areas.
